Harmergreen Wood Scout Activity Centre

Harmergreen Wood is a 44-acre site that features ancient woodland in addition to cleared glades for camping. The main strength of this site is that it is ‘back to basics’ at its best. You can use the woodland for camping, survival, backwoods skills, bivouacking and also for basic woodcraft.

We are located within walking distance of Welwyn North train station and is about one mile from the A1, which make trips to surrounding areas and London quick and easy

There are about 15 glades cleared in the wood to make space for camping. Some are big enough for larger events. Most of them have space allocated for an open ground fire. Within the woodland is a campfire circle, there is plenty of natural wood available for making fires for cooking on or for an evening campfire.
The remaining part of the woods is undeveloped and can be used to experience backwoods camping, bivouacking, and survival techniques.

Stag Cottage is a wooden building located within the ‘Fort William’ compound.  It is suitable Sleepovers and available to hire for any event from February to November. The 3 bunk rooms sleep 4, 6 and 8 people, making a total of 18 beds available.   Some additional mattresses are available for sleeping within the main hall. There is a fitted kitchen with 2 domestic gas cookers, fridge, freezer and running hot water.  No kitchen equipment is provided.
Electricity within Stag Cottage is provided by a generator and included in the price.

The main hall is approx 350sq foot, tables and chairs are available to seat approx 50 people. There is also a projector and sound system.
