Cons, Festivals and Fayres

This is the directory for conventions, festivals, fayres, traders markets and other Out of Charater events

ConTingency

5 days of gaming in the New Forest

Sandy Balls Holiday Village is a year round holiday venue set in 120 acres of beautiful New Forest woodland. The site includes a village store, Woodside Inn, Forest Table Restaurant, leisure centre with indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and state-of-the-art gym.

There is also a beauty salon and a range of sporting facilities. For children there are outdoor and indoor play areas including a soft play area. The site is ideally situated for visiting tourist attractions in the New Forest area.

For ConTingency we have exclusive use of the Woodside Suite which will house trade stalls, the admin area, bring and buy stall, raffle and several tables of games, plus a licensed bar and food outlet. We will also be running games in both the Woodside Inn and Forest Table.

The guest accommodation is spacious enough to also be used for games. During the day there will be a dedicated lodge available for parents and their children with a selection of children's games and craft materials, there will also be scheduled games that are aimed at our younger members in the main areas. All of the on-site facilities will remain open during ConTingency.

Fayre Times Festival

The Fayre Times Festival is a lot like the American Renaissance Fayre, combined with elements of events such as Castlefest and Elf Fantasy Fayre. It has been designed to bring people from a myriad of similar and related hobbies and interests together in one place. Here they will be able to demonstrate their hobbies to others including members of the public.

Unlike other re-enactment events our battles will not be historical re-enactments and so our battles will never become predictable.  We will also have LARP battles and displays alongside the historical re-enactments.

We will also have role-play games, war games and board games, along with traders selling the latest gear running alongside the battles and displays.

At the same time we will be able to build on the success of each year, providing both the public and the members of the various hobbies and interests a slightly different experience each time.

We will have competitions, battles, games and much more going on to keep everyone interested and entertained. We are also seeking to bring together a large group of traders which represent our key disciplines; so that those attending might find everything they are looking for all in one place.

Kaleidoscopic Consequences

Consequences K is brought to you by UK Freeforms, and friends. It's a convention dedicated to LARPs and Freeforms. It's also more than just games, though! There will be vendors, parties, social get-togethers, and other LARP-related events.

Our goal is to bring together the best LARPs we can find, of all styles and genres, in one weekend, so that you can't help but find a game or three (or five!) that you just have to play. We are always looking for new and different styles of games, for short games, long games, small games and bigger games. We always have a great crowd of wonderful LARPers waiting to get into character and costume. It doesn't matter if this is your first experience with a LARP convention or if you're an old hand; there's something for everyone, and we try to help newcomers fit right in.

Consequences is organized and run by a large group of volunteers, all of whom are gamers.

LARP Aid

LARP-Aid brings people from all over the country and from all backgrounds together and it has the ability to reach past LARP and into the public domain. These are good things regardless, but we don’t want to waste the benefits this brings, so we have set up the LARP-Aid Alliance.

The LARP-Aid Alliance, put simply, is about community. By signing up to the LARP-Aid Alliance an organisation, be it big or small, gains access to advertising and promotional space that they would not normally have access to in return for sharing that privilege with LARP-Aid, but this is a means, not an end in itself. What this advertising and promotion means is not just more advertising, but the stepping stone into the LARP community becoming a fully fledged and involved community and the ways we want to do that are:

  • Letting larpers know what is available to them and how to get involved with it.
  • Moving LARP from a ‘nerdy’ hobby and a niche market into the mainstream.
  • Helping new LARP systems to get off the ground via our Community Chest.
  • Giving a helping hand to those people that have hit hard times or that have put themselves on the line for others with no thought for themselves through our Benevolent Fund.
